Made in Germany | India – The German Car Industry in Puna

The cheapest car in the world – the Tato Nano – is due to hit the market early next year. Made in India, the car will target India’s emerging middle-class.

At the moment, it’s not uncommon to see entire families travelling on a single moped. Several German companies hold big stakes in the Tato Nano. Industry suppliers Continental are producing gas injection pumps for it in their Puna factory. The city is becoming increasingly popular with car makers. Hundreds of German firms from the automotive and machine manufacturing industries have opened branches there. Birgit Maaß has had a look around Puna and the premises of Continental.
