Bentley S1 Continental Park Ward Fixed-Head Coupé 1957

Bentley S1 Continental Park Ward Fixed-Head Coupé 1957

Bentley ranks amongst the famous makes in history. Founded by W.O.Bentley in 1919, his cars were most successful in racing, having won the 24 Hours of Le Mans no less than 5 times. The Great Depression and the fading support by its financier Woolf Barnato led to the end of the W.O. period in 1931, when the company was taken over by its rival Rolls-Royce and production moved to Derby. After World War II, the Rolls-Royce plant was moved from Derby to Crewe. Although in the process of industrialisation, Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars were made in the new "Standard Steel" version (car totally built in house including coachwork), the more luxurious "Coachbuilt" version was still available to special offer. For the "Coachbuilt" version, the manufacturer built the "rolling chassis" but then commissioned the coachwork to an authorised coachbuilder, allowing the customer to choose from a variety of different coachwork designs.
From 1950 until 1959, all Bentley cars featured the 6-cylinder engine legendary from the Thirties, gradually upgraded to 4.5 litre, and 4.9 litre after 1959. No other engine offers the silence, smoothness and total absence of any vibration like the Bentley 6-cylinder engine. The subsequent Bentley V8 engine after 1959 was clearly stronger, but not nearly as refined.
Only Bentley (not Rolls-Royce) cars were optionally available with the "Continental" option, an upgrade featuring a more sporty suspension, a higher rear axle ratio and a rev counter instrument, suitable for long distance high-speed cruising. This "Continental" option made these large and elegant Bentley cars surprisingly sporty and nimble to drive. On the coachwork side, one particular model is a milestone in the history of Postwar Bentley cars – the S1 Continental Park Ward Coupé. For reasons never quite understood, the S1 Continental Park Ward handles infinitely better than its contemporaries by H.J.Mulliner, James Young, etc, which must have to do with the way that the bodies are attached to the chassis. Another quality makes the S1 Continental Park Ward unique – its outstanding coachwork design which is elegant yet very sporty.
This particular car, the S1 Continental Park Ward Fixed-Head Coupé chassis N°BC38LCH is very special for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is one of only 33 cars built with left hand drive (of which only some 10 examples were made with the small rear quarter window). Secondly, it was totally restored by foremost expert P. & A. Wood from 2005 until 2009, including a number of special upgrades such as secondary fuel pump system, auxiliary fan system and fully integrated air conditioning. No other Fifties grand touring coupé car offer performances and comfort quite like this car.

BMW 1M heading to MFest 2013 Las Vegas

BMW 1M heading to MFest 2013 Las Vegas

The BMW 1 Series M ("1M coupe") is a high-performance version of the BMW 1 Series Coupe, developed by BMW’s motorsport branch BMW M. While BMW naming convention would have called the car the "M1", the name "BMW 1 Series M" was used instead, to avoid confusion with the original BMW M1.

BMW M boss Dr. Kay Segler officially announced the making of the M variant of the BMW 1-Series Coupé on July 9, 2010, via an official YouTube video and press release. On December 9, 2010, BMW officially announced all details of the car in the media. The variant was marketed as a spiritual follow-up to the famous E30 M3.

Prior to the 1M coupe, a bespoke engine (with a code starting with "S", for example S14, S50, S65) was used for all BMW M models. However, the 1M Coupé uses a re-tuned version of the twin-turbocharged N54 engine which is used in various other models. In the 1M Coupe, the engine produces 340 hp at 5900 rpm and 332 lb·ft torque from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm (with +369 lb·ft overboost). The sole available drivetrain is a six-speed manual gearbox with a limited slip differential.

The 1M coupe has a significantly wider track and bigger body than the standard E82 coupe, as well as a different body kit. Despite the car’s larger size, it is 77 lb (35 kg) lighter than the standard E82 coupe, giving it a weight of 3,296 lb.

BMW was originally going to release the 1M Coupé as a limited production model of 2,700 units. Then due to overwhelming demand, the company lifted the cap and produced a total of 6331 cars until production ended in June 2012. Nevertheless, production of the North American variant of the 1M Coupé stopped in June 2012, with 740 units sold in the US and a further 220 sold in Canada. Total 6039 cars sold worldwide.

The 1M was featured on Top Gear on 26 June 2011 and recorded a time of 1:25.0 around the Top Gear test track.. The 1M was met in the media with enthusiastic reviews, Jeremy Clarkson likening it, as a breakthrough model, to the original Volkswagen Golf GTI. It also received "Richard Hammond’s Car of the Year 2011" award in Top Gear (magazine).

Cadillac is a luxury vehicle marque owned by General Motors Company. Cadillac vehicles are sold in over 50 countries and territories, but mainly in North America.
Cadillac is currently the oldest American automobile manufacturer and among the oldest automobile brands in the world. Founded in 1902 as the Cadillac Automobile Company, it was purchased in 1909 by General Motors and over the next 30 years established itself as America’s premier luxury car. Cadillac pioneered many accessories in automobiles, including full electrical systems, the clashless manual transmission and the steel roof. The brand developed three engines, one of which (the V8) set the standard for the American automotive industry.
Cadillac was purchased by the General Motors (GM) conglomerate in 1909. Cadillac became General Motors’ prestige division, devoted to the production of large luxury vehicles. The Cadillac line was also GM’s default marque for "commercial chassis" institutional vehicles, such as limousines, ambulances, hearses and funeral home flower cars, the last three of which were custom-built by aftermarket manufacturers. Cadillac does not produce any such vehicles in their factory.
In July 1917, the United States Army needed a dependable staff car and chose the Cadillac Type 55 Touring Model after exhaustive tests on the Mexican border. Two thousand three hundred fifty of the cars were supplied for use in France by officers of the American Expeditionary Force during World War I.[5]
Pre-World War II Cadillacs were well-built, powerful, mass-produced luxury cars aimed at an upper class market. In the 1930s, Cadillac added cars with V12 and V16 engines to their range, many of which were fitted with custom coach-built bodies; these engines were remarkable at the time for their ability to deliver a combination of high power, silky smoothness and quietness.
Automobile stylist Harley Earl, whom Cadillac had recruited in 1926 and who was to head the new Art and Color section starting in January 1928, designed for 1927 a new, smaller "companion" car to the Cadillac which he called the La Salle, after another French explorer, René Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle. That marque remained in production until 1940.

The Coupe deVille (sometimes spelled Coupe Deville or Coupe DeVille) was a model of Cadillac from 1949 through 1993.
The Coupe deVille was introduced by Cadillac late in the 1949 model year. Part of the Cadillac Series 62 line, it was a closed, two-door coupé, Cadillac’s first pillarless hardtop. Intended as a prestige model, at $3,497 it was one of the most expensive models of the Series 62 line. It was luxuriously trimmed, with leather upholstery and chrome ‘bows’ in the headliner to simulate the ribs of a convertible top. The first-year Coupe deVille sold 2,150 units, but 1950 sales were more than double, and 1951 more than doubled those of the previous year. By 1961 it was one of the company’s most popular models, with annual sales above 20,000.
Cadillac De Ville nomenclature always followed a tradition: Two doors with steel roofs were always Coupe De Ville, four doors were always …
