Jeep é uma marca registada atualmente em nome da Chrysler LLC Group. O termo jipe virou sinônimo de automóveis destinados ao uso fora de estrada, ou off road, normalmente com tração nas quatro rodas. A palavra jipe é um aportuguesamento do termo em inglês jeep, derivado da pronúncia em inglês da sigla GP, que significa general purpose ou "uso geral", embora essa não seja a origem da marca Jeep.

O veículo surgiu durante o esforço de guerra americano, no final dos anos 1930 e início dos 40, em que era necessário um veículo leve, com capacidade de superar terrenos difíceis e com obstáculos, e com capacidade para levar alguns homens e armamentos. Ao final da segunda guerra, a Willys requisitou o registro do nome Jeep.

Der Škoda Sagitta war ein Kleinwagen-Prototyp des tschechoslowakischen Herstellers Škoda. Die in Holz-Stahl-Mischkonstruktion gefertigte Karosserie ähnelte der des Škoda Popular. Das Fahrzeug wurde 1937 hergestellt. Es kam nie zu einer Serienfertigung.

Der luftgekühlte, seitengesteuerte Zweizylinder-Viertakt-V-Motor hatte einem Hubraum von 845 cm³ und eine Leistung von 15 PS (11 kW). Über die Kardanwelle und das an die Hinterachse angeflanschte Getriebe (Transaxle-Bauweise) wurde die Antriebskraft an die Hinterräder weitergeleitet. Das 580 kg schwere Fahrzeug erreichte eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 70 km/h. Der vorne und hinten gegabelte Zentralrohrrahmen des Wagens bestand aus gepressten Stahlprofilen.

Als Trabant wird die ab 1957 in der DDR gefertigte Pkw-Baureihe des Herstellers VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau bezeichnet. Zwischen November 1957 und April 1991 wurden insgesamt 3.051.385 Fahrzeuge der Trabant-Baureihe produziert. Beim deutschen Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt waren zum 1. Januar 2007 noch rund 52.400 Fahrzeuge in Deutschland registriert. Viele Fahrzeuge exportierte man zu DDR-Zeiten in die ČSSR, nach Polen und vor allem Ungarn. Anfänglich galt die Baureihe als sparsam und robust, später jedoch veraltete sie aufgrund fehlender Innovationen. Heute gilt der Trabi als Kultauto, das verschiedene Fanclubs würdigen.

In 1997, the Trabant was celebrated for passing the "Elchtest" ("moose test"), a 60 km/h (37 mph) swerve manoeuvre slalom, without toppling over like the Mercedes-Benz A-Class infamously did. A newspaper from Thuringia had a headline saying "Come and get us, moose! Trabi passes A-Class killer test".
