My Subaru WRX Story: Stand Up For Yourself at the Dealership!

Learn how I dug my feet in the sand and stood up to a pair of Subaru dealerships attempting to alter the terms and conditions of my 2002 Subaru WRX lease, saving me thousands of dollars. Fight back and refuse to pay the ‘junk fees’!

Read the fine print of every contract you sign and understand that your right to walk away provides leverage when the dealership attempts to bury hidden junk fees in the terms and conditions of contracts. I ran into this problem at the Subaru dealership that leased my WRX, as well as the Subaru dealership I chose to return the car to at lease-end. However, I was able to fight back and pull the rug out from under them, saving me thousands and costing them nearly as much.

Disclaimer: my experience with Subaru is not necessarily indicative of all Subaru dealers, and is just one data point to take under consideration. Subaru builds fine cars and I would highly recommend them to others. My story is a lesson in handling situations similar to this at any dealership — Subaru or otherwise — in order to protect your own interests and both personally and financially.
