Mercury outboard engines range in power from 2 HP to 350 HP. The recently introduced models in the brand include the OptiMax Jet 80 and Jet 110, Flyway 25 EFI Four Stroke and Pro Kicker 15 HP For Stroke outboards.
Besides Mercury outboards, the Mercury brand includes Mariner outboards, MerCruiser sterndrives, MerCruiser inboards, MotorGuide electric motors, Quicksilver inflatables, and Bermuda fishing essentials.
In addition to retaining its leadership in invention, designing and building innovative marine propulsion systems, and an unmatched record in service, the Mercury brand has also ventured in the field of boats. With its nationwide network of authorized dealers, it markets complete boats and trailers, along with a complete range of boating and fishing accessories. Thus, besides Mercury outboard engines, the Mercury brand today supplies all your requirements for recreational boating and fishing.
A Proud History
Mercury outboard engines had their beginnings in 1939, when Carl Kiekhaefer, a young engineer, bought a dying company that manufactured outboard motors at Cedarburg, Wisconsin. The assets of the company included 300 defective outboards.
Although Kiekhaefer’s never intended to enter the outboard business, his original plan being to manufacture magnetic separators for the dairy industry, he decided to rebuild the rejected outboards and sell them in order to get some cash for his new business. But the engines performed so well that orders started showering from all directions, and the Kiekhaefer Corporation, with the brand name of Mercury, took birth.
During the war, the company quickly shifted gears to supply the armed forces with all types of lightweight engines, along with generators, compressors and chainsaws. After the war, the 1946 Mercury model became the launching pad for its future expansion. Soon the company flooded the market with more and more improved models, and Mercury set the outboard speed record in the 1960’s. After the company’s merger with Brunswick Corp in 1961, it became the leading manufacturer of outboard engines.
Based in the US, Mercury Marine serves the global outboard and boat market through its distribution centers strategically located all over the world. The company has abundant resources to support the dealers and distributors, and serve its esteemed customers. With offices in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in Australia, Auckland in New Zealand, Suzhou and Zhuhai in China, Selangor in Malaysia, and in Singapore, the company has a direct presence in Australia as well as Asia Pacific.
Mercury outboard engines have proved their quality in several endurance tests and grueling boat races worldwide. The recent non-stop 24 hour race in Rouen, France, with stoppages only for fuel and driver exchanges, once again proved the supremacy of the Mercury brand in the industry which won its 16th title in the last 17 years in such races.
